PATTAYA, Thailand – Police in Pattaya carried out a late-night raid on a high-end entertainment venue, detaining 34 people for drug testing following reports of suspected narcotics use inside the premises, April 9.

The operation was led by Maj. Gen. Kiatthisak Srathongoi, commander of the Investigation Division of Provincial Police Region 2, along with senior officers from Pattaya Police Station and regional investigative units.

Authorities said the raid was launched after receiving intelligence that groups of foreign nationals—particularly Chinese tourists—were allegedly gathering at the venue to use illegal drugs.

At around 3:36 a.m., officers arrived at the club, located near the Paniad Chang intersection on Third Road. The venue was described as a large, luxury establishment with tight security, including concealed CCTV systems and controlled keycard access. Police reportedly had to wait more than five minutes before gaining entry.

Once inside, chaos ensued as several patrons attempted to flee or hide in private rooms. Officers spent more than two hours securing the premises and rounding up individuals inside.

A total of 34 people were detained, including 17 tourists and 17 staff members. The group comprised 19 men and 15 women. Despite the extensive search, no illegal substances were immediately found within the venue.

All individuals were taken for urine testing to determine whether drugs were present in their systems. Authorities are currently awaiting the results.

Police said the venue operator will face further legal action if any violations are confirmed, while investigations remain ongoing as part of a broader crackdown on drug-related activities in Pattaya’s nightlife scene.
