PATTAYA, Thailand – Residents and tourists in Pattaya should prepare for heavy showers and thunderstorms as Tropical Storm Fengchen strengthens the northeast monsoon, even though the storm itself remains over the northern South China Sea.

According to Thailand’s Meteorological Department, the storm, currently near Luzon in the Philippines, is expected to move toward southern Hainan, China, and central Vietnam between October 21–23. While Fengchen will not directly hit Thailand, it is enhancing rainfall across the northeast and south, with northeast winds picking up speed.

For Pattaya and Chonburi province, thunderstorms are expected in several areas, with heavy rainfall in some locations. Sea conditions are also expected to worsen, with waves reaching up to 2 meters in storm-affected zones. Authorities advise caution when traveling, particularly in flood-prone areas, and urge boaters to avoid stormy waters.

Northeast and central regions: scattered thunderstorms, temperatures 32–34°C.

Eastern seaboard, including Pattaya: scattered thunderstorms with heavy rain in some spots, temperatures 32–35°C, waves up to 2 meters in storm-affected areas.

Southern Thailand: widespread thunderstorms with heavy rainfall, temperatures 29–32°C.

Residents and visitors are advised to stay updated with weather alerts, prepare for sudden storms, and take precautions against potential flash floods.
