PATTAYA, Thailand – A long-awaited transformation of Pattaya Second Road has officially begun, with the city launching a major resurfacing project aimed at restoring one of the city’s busiest routes within 90 days. Pattaya Deputy Mayor Manot Nongyai inspected the first day of work on Tuesday and instructed the contractor to follow the schedule while minimizing disruption to traffic, businesses, hotels, and visitors along the route. The project marks a major recovery effort for a road that has endured years of construction activity. For more than three years, Pattaya Second Road has been affected by multiple infrastructure projects, including water pipe installations, large drainage improvements, and underground electricity cable works. The repeated construction left sections of the road uneven, damaged, and in need of rehabilitation.
To improve durability, Pattaya City will use recycling technology that reuses parts of the existing road structure together with new asphalt surfacing in selected areas. The approach is designed to strengthen the road, reduce material waste, and extend its service life. Although the construction contract officially took effect on July 8, full on-site work began on July 21. The project is scheduled to take approximately 90 days and will be carried out in stages of around 300 meters at a time rather than closing the entire road, allowing shops, hotels, and businesses to continue operating.
The first phase will begin from the Central Pattaya intersection toward the Dolphin Roundabout and is expected to take around 20 days before moving to the next section. Traffic police will coordinate with officials throughout the project to help maintain smooth traffic flow. Manot said the completed road will provide safer and higher-quality infrastructure for residents and tourists while improving the appearance of a major route in an international tourism city. He added that once underground utility projects are completed, future road surfaces should no longer face repeated excavation caused by infrastructure work, helping Pattaya maintain better long-term road standards.
