Pattaya Mayor Sonthaya Kunplome and local offices have a look at the new Bung Nong Pong Park, scheduled to open in August.

Jomtien Beach’s new Bung Nong Pong Park will open in August on previously abandoned Soi Chaiyapruek 4 land.

Pattaya Mayor Sonthaya Kunplome said June 16 that the five-rai park will offer Jomtien residents space to play sports and relax. Construction is nearly complete and now is being inspected and tweaked by the city’s Environment Department.

The land previously was overgrown and often populated by homeless people camping under trees. It was often dirty, both due to people living there and others using it as an illegal dump.

Pattaya spent 30 million baht to develop the plot with outdoor exercise zones built with durable and safe materials, running lanes and a pond for relaxation.

The park will open in August, but will have its hours limited and city officers on duty to prevent groups from congregating in violation of coronavirus-control rules.
