PATTAYA, Thailand – A man’s body was discovered floating in a public canal in east Pattaya on Friday afternoon, with authorities working to identify the victim and determine the cause of death.
Sawang Boriboon Pattaya rescue workers were alerted at around 12:30 p.m. on July 31 after receiving reports of a body found in a canal in Soi Chaiyaporn Withi 1.
Rescue teams coordinated with an investigator from Banglamung Police Station, and forensic officers from Chonburi to examine the scene. The victim was identified only as a Thai man. His body was found floating face down near the canal bank. He was wearing black shorts and a long-sleeved Guard Pattaya shirt. A rope was found around his neck, while his body had already begun showing signs of swelling. Authorities estimated he may have been dead for at least two days. No identification documents or valuables were found on the victim.
A local resident, Boonkert Duangwilai, 34, said he was working nearby when he heard people calling for help after seeing something floating in the water. He ran along the canal for about 200–300 meters before entering the water and grabbing the rope, only to discover it was attached to a deceased person. Authorities photographed and documented the scene before transferring the body for a post-mortem examination to establish the exact cause of death and confirm the victim’s identity. Police are asking anyone who has missing relatives or information that may help identify the man to contact Banglamung Police Station.
