PATTAYA, Thailand – Pattaya City has begun installing roofs over pedestrian footbridges at schools and key locations along Sukhumvit Road to improve safety and provide shelter from the sun and rain.
On the evening of August 3, Pattaya Mayor Poramet Ngampichet, accompanied by his secretary, Bancha Kullavanich, inspected construction work at the footbridge outside Pattaya City School 1.
The project is designed to make pedestrian crossings safer and more comfortable for students, parents, and the public by providing protection from harsh sunlight and wet weather.
Pattaya City plans to install covered roofs at a total of nine footbridges, including those serving Pattaya City Schools 1, 2, 4, 7, and 9, as well as other important crossings along Sukhumvit Road.
The roofs will feature a curved wave design inspired by the architecture of Bali Hai Pier, reflecting Pattaya’s coastal identity while enhancing the city’s appearance with a modern and orderly look.
Construction is expected to take approximately 150 days.
Mayor Poramet instructed relevant agencies to ensure the structures meet safety and engineering standards, emphasizing durability and public safety throughout the project.
City officials said the covered footbridges will help reduce the risks associated with crossing busy roads while giving students and parents greater confidence when traveling in all weather conditions.
