BANGKOK, Thailand – A man armed with a knife was arrested after allegedly attacking people and smashing property in Bangkok’s busy Asoke area on September 24, leaving several people injured and forcing authorities to close a section of road near the Israeli Embassy. The incident happened at about 10 a.m. on Sukhumvit 21 Road, Soi 3, in the Asoke-Montri area. Witness reports said the unidentified man was carrying a sharp-pointed knife while moving along the roadside and allegedly attacking members of the public. He also reportedly went on a rampage along the footpath, overturning food vendors’ carts and scattering their contents across the pavement before smashing shop windows in the surrounding area.
Authorities closed traffic along the road in front of the Israeli Embassy as officers dealt with the situation and worked to protect people in the area. Several people were reportedly injured. Images from the scene showed one man lying on the ground with significant bleeding and serious wounds. Rescue workers provided emergency first aid before taking injured people to nearby hospitals. Police eventually surrounded the suspect and moved in to arrest him.
The man was taken to Thong Lor Police Station for questioning while investigators work to establish what led to the incident and determine the circumstances behind the attacks. No motive had been confirmed in the initial reports.
