The hard, round explosive filled with gunpowder and rocks was discovered near the entrance to Wat Yanasangwararam Feb. 16. Police said it appeared the device could have been detonated remotely.

Explosive Ordinance Disposal officers defused the device and no one was injured.

Police said the object was an “improvised explosive device”, or IED, which might have been created by youths trying to create panic. Another theory is the bomb-makers dumped the device by the temple as they feared being caught with it.
