PATTAYA, Thailand – Residents and visitors in Pattaya can expect a week of intense heat mixed with sudden storms, as Thailand’s Meteorological Department warns of volatile weather conditions across the country.
From now through early April, Pattaya and much of eastern Thailand will experience generally hot to very hot daytime temperatures, with hazy skies and rising humidity making conditions feel even more uncomfortable, especially in the afternoons.
However, the heat won’t be the only concern.
Weather officials say thunderstorms, gusty winds, and isolated heavy downpours are likely to develop in parts of the region, driven by low-pressure conditions caused by the intense heat. These storms may arrive suddenly, bringing strong winds that could disrupt outdoor activities and travel plans.
While the most severe conditions — including the risk of hail — are expected further north and in the northeast, Pattaya could still see brief but intense storms, particularly later in the day or evening.
The changing wind patterns, including strengthening southeasterly and southerly winds, are contributing to the unstable conditions affecting the eastern seaboard.
Meanwhile, coastal conditions remain relatively calm. Waves in the Gulf of Thailand are expected to average around one metre, although they may rise above that in stormy areas.
What to watch out for
Authorities are urging people in Pattaya to stay alert during this period of mixed weather:
- Avoid open areas during thunderstorms and strong winds
- Stay clear of large trees, unstable structures, and billboards
- Be cautious when riding motorbikes, especially during sudden rain and wind gusts
- Take extra care of health due to prolonged heat and high temperatures
For tourists planning Songkran trips, the message is simple — expect heat, prepare for sudden rain, and plan activities with flexibility.
Despite the unsettled conditions, Pattaya’s coastal setting means the city will still see plenty of sunshine between storms. But with temperatures climbing and weather turning unpredictable, it’s a week where caution and preparation will go a long way.
