PATTAYA, Thailand – Residents and visitors in Pattaya are being advised to stay alert as Thailand’s Thai Meteorological Department warns that summer storms will continue to affect much of the country for at least another day, including the eastern region where Pattaya is located.
According to the latest advisory, parts of eastern Thailand—including Chonburi—are expected to see thunderstorms across around 60% of the area. The storms may bring strong gusty winds, isolated heavy rain, and even hail in some locations, along with the risk of lightning.
The unstable weather is being driven by a high-pressure system from China pushing cooler air down over the northeast and the South China Sea, clashing with the intense heat that continues to build over upper Thailand. This combination is creating volatile conditions ideal for sudden summer storms.
In Pattaya, the day is likely to begin hot and humid, with temperatures rising under hazy skies before conditions shift in the afternoon or evening. Locals have already experienced this pattern in recent days—brief but intense downpours offering temporary relief from the heat, followed by a rapid return to sweltering conditions.
While the rain may cool things down momentarily, authorities warn that the accompanying strong winds can pose risks, particularly for motorcyclists, beach operators, and those in open areas. Sudden storms may also impact traffic along Sukhumvit Road and beachside routes, where visibility can drop quickly during heavy showers.
Beachgoers are advised to be cautious, especially with the possibility of lightning and rougher sea conditions during storm periods. Small boats should proceed with care, and anyone planning outdoor activities should keep an eye on rapidly changing weather conditions.
Despite the short-term disruption, many in Pattaya welcome the cooling effect after days of intense heat. Still, the message from forecasters is clear: the stormy pattern is not over just yet, and caution remains essential.
