PATTAYA, Thailand – The Meteorological Department has warned of heavy rainfall in several parts of Thailand over the next 24 hours, with eastern provinces including Chonburi expected to experience thunderstorms and periods of heavy rain. The warning comes as a low-pressure system remains over upper Vietnam, while a moderate southwest monsoon continues to cover the Andaman Sea, Thailand, and the Gulf of Thailand. Residents in affected areas are advised to remain alert for possible dangers from heavy rain and accumulated rainfall, which could lead to localized flooding and difficult travel conditions.
The Meteorological Department also warned of moderate sea conditions in the upper Andaman Sea and upper Gulf of Thailand. Waves are expected to reach 1–2 meters, while areas affected by thunderstorms could see waves higher than 2 meters. Fishermen and boat operators are advised to exercise caution and avoid sailing in areas experiencing storms.
A tropical depression currently located over the Pacific Ocean is expected to strengthen into a tropical storm before moving across the northern Philippines and into the upper South China Sea between July 24 and 25. The storm is forecast to move toward Guangdong Province in China between July 26 and 27 and is not expected to enter Thailand. The Meteorological Department advised people planning travel to the affected areas to check weather conditions before departure.
Northern Thailand is expected to see thunderstorms covering around 60% of the area, with heavy rain possible in Chiang Rai, Phayao, Nan, Uttaradit, Phitsanulok, and Phetchabun.
The Northeast may also experience thunderstorms across 60% of the region, with heavy rain possible in Bueng Kan, Sakon Nakhon, Nakhon Phanom, Mukdahan, Amnat Charoen, and Ubon Ratchathani.
Central Thailand is forecast to have thunderstorms in around 60% of the area, with heavy rain possible in Lopburi and Saraburi. The East, including Chonburi, Rayong, Chanthaburi, and Trat, faces a higher chance of rainfall, with thunderstorms expected across 70% of the region. Heavy rain is possible in some areas, with winds reaching 15–35 kilometers per hour and seas remaining at 1–2 meters. Thunderstorm areas could see waves above 2 meters.
Southern Thailand’s eastern coast may experience thunderstorms in around 40% of the area, particularly in Prachuap Khiri Khan, Chumphon, Surat Thani, Narathiwat, and Yala. The western coast of the South faces a higher rain risk, with thunderstorms across 70% of the area and heavy rain possible in Ranong and Phang Nga. Bangkok and surrounding areas are also forecast to experience thunderstorms across 60% of the area, with some locations facing heavy rainfall. The Meteorological Department urged the public to follow weather updates closely, especially during periods of heavy rainfall and strong winds.
