PATTAYA, Thailand — Residents are calling for urgent safety measures on Chaiyaphruek Road, east of Pattaya, within the jurisdiction of Nongprue Municipality, after a vehicle reportedly fell into a hole in an area affected by road construction and flooding.
The concern was raised on September 28 by a Facebook user who posted photographs on the Nongprue Talk community page, questioning whether excavation work along the road had contributed to the ground collapsing and expanding around the affected area. The post also questioned whether other sections where excavation work had been carried out could face similar problems, particularly when heavy rain leaves the road underwater.
A site inspection found that several sections of Chaiyaphruek Road are currently undergoing municipal road construction. Floodwater covering parts of the roadway can make holes, excavated areas and other hazards difficult for motorists to see, increasing the risk of accidents.
Residents are calling on the responsible authorities to inspect the construction site and take immediate measures to make the route safer, particularly with further heavy rain possible.
Motorists involved in an accident at a flooded or damaged section of road are advised to photograph the location, drainage pipes, manholes and vehicle damage as evidence. They should also report the incident to police and contact the relevant local authority or project operator regarding any potential compensation.
