PATTAYA, Thailand – Pattaya’s parking rules left little room for negotiation when a white taxi was clamped after being found parked along a white-and-red no-parking zone on Beach Road. The taxi was among vehicles caught during Pattaya City’s continuing campaign to clear prohibited parking areas and return public spaces to residents and tourists.
With the wheel already locked, the driver appeared to make his case to municipal officers, trying to explain his way out of the violation while officials stood by the clamped vehicle. The scene offered a reminder that Pattaya’s parking rules apply to everyone — including taxis and other vehicles serving the city’s large tourist population.
Pattaya municipal officers, working with police and other agencies, have been conducting regular patrols along the beachfront. Vehicles parked on white-and-red markings can be clamped and fined, while public parking spaces cannot be reserved, rented out or occupied for private commercial purposes without permission.
The city says the campaign is intended to ensure that beachfront parking remains available fairly to residents and visitors, while improving traffic order and safety along Pattaya Beach Road. The enforcement has already seen officers issue tickets and lock wheels during repeated patrols, with officials warning motorists that being unfamiliar with the rules is not an excuse for parking in prohibited areas.
For the taxi driver in the photograph, however, the explanation appeared to come too late — the clamp had already delivered the city’s answer.
