Yodchai Phuengphon, Chonburi MP representing the Pattaya area, files a police complaint in Banglamung after receiving a death threat phone call.
PATTAYA, Thailand – A Member of Parliament representing a constituency in Chonburi province, which includes Pattaya and surrounding areas, has filed a police complaint after receiving a threatening phone call warning that he would be shot on June 19. Yodchai Phuengphon, MP for Chonburi under the People’s Party, reported the incident to Banglamung Police Station at around 3 p.m. on June 20, after an unknown caller contacted his personal mobile phone and issued threats against his life. He said the call occurred while he was attending a high-level political training course at the King Prajadhipok’s Institute. During a classroom session, he received a call from an unknown number and stepped outside to answer it.
According to Yodchai, a male voice on the line first asked whether he was the MP and then questioned his political affiliation. After he confirmed he was with the People’s Party, the caller allegedly made threatening remarks, including references to dissolving his party and stating, “I will shoot you.” The call was then abruptly ended.
Following the incident, Yodchai filed a police report for initial documentation. He is expected to give a formal statement on June 22, after which authorities will continue their investigation and coordinate with Thung Song Hong Police Station in Bangkok, believed to be linked to the origin of the call. Yodchai also urged authorities to take political intimidation and threats more seriously, noting that several politicians and their associates have recently faced harassment and violent incidents. He questioned the safety of public figures, saying political figures at both national and regional levels continue to face threats and attacks, and called on authorities to strengthen security measures and address rising political tensions.
