Banglamung police recovered seven stolen motorcycles hidden in a jungle by thieves planning to export them abroad.

Waew Innate, assistant chief for Takhiantia Moo 5 village, said residents foraging in the woods stumbled across the seven Honda Wave 110 bikes and alerted him. Waew called police, who came out Feb. 25 and impounded the vehicles.

One resident identified only as Somporn, 54, said, that night, a Toyota Vigo drove the 200 meters from the road and up the hill with three more motorbikes in the back. When they spotted people at their hiding place, the driver turned off the lights and turned around, escaping the scene.

Banglamung police chief Pol. Col. Nawin Sinturat said the thieves are believed to be part of a major motorcycle-theft ring that ships the stolen bikes to neighboring countries.

Residents foraging in the woods stumbled across the seven stolen Honda Wave 110 bikes believed stolen from a government housing project in Laem Chabang.

Five of the seven bikes were identified from police reports after they were stolen. Police showed their catch online, asking theft victims to come forward. Most of the bikes were stolen from a government housing project in Laem Chabang, he said.

Resident Somporn said the secluded jungle in Moo 5 – two kilometers off Highway 331 – was used years ago by a Cambodian theft ring. Nine motorbikes were found in the same place back then, he said.
