Brake failure is being blamed for a crane that smashed into a pickup truck in Huay Yai, injuring three.

Police and paramedics were called to a bridge construction site on Khao Maikaew-Huay Kai Nao Road March 14 to find the crane in a canal with the critically injured operator stuck inside.

It took only minutes to free the driver, who was rushed to the hospital. Meanwhile, another construction company was summoned to pull the crane out of the canal.

Pickup driver Boonlert Phubantorn, 37, said he was taking workers to the site when they ran into the crane carrier. Moments later the crane crashed into his truck and two men sitting in the back were injured.

They were reported out of danger at a local hospital.
