PRACHUAP KHIRI KHAN, Thailand – Police in Hua Hin have seized 166 kilograms of crystal methamphetamine allegedly being transported by a 20-year-old Malaysian man in a white BMW, following an investigation into a major drug trafficking network suspected of moving drugs from Suvarnabhumi Airport toward southern Thailand. Pol. Col. Kampanat Na Wichai, superintendent of Hua Hin Police Station, ordered officers to expand the investigation after information emerged that a large trafficking network was allegedly using Hua Hin as a staging point. Vehicles were reportedly brought into the area to wait before the drugs were transported onward to destinations in the South. At around 12:30 a.m. on August 8, officers received information that a white BMW suspected of carrying a large quantity of drugs would pass through Hua Hin. Police set up an interception point on Hua Hin Soi 8.
Officers spotted the BMW, registration 6 Kor Sor 7040 Bangkok, passing through the checkpoint. Police said the driver appeared suspicious and attempted to evade officers, prompting them to follow and stop the vehicle near a convenience store in the Hua Hin Grand area. The driver was identified as MR. JULIAN ONG HWEISHEN, a 20-year-old Malaysian national. Several suitcases were found inside the BMW. Police said the suspect claimed the luggage did not belong to him and that he did not know the combination needed to open the bags.
The suspect and vehicle were taken back to the checkpoint, where officers conducted a search with his consent. When the suitcases were opened in his presence, officers allegedly discovered large quantities of drugs concealed inside. The seized drugs were identified as 166 kilograms of crystal methamphetamine, along with the white BMW. The suspect and evidence were handed over to Hua Hin investigators for legal proceedings. Police are now expanding the investigation to trace the source of the drugs, the intended destination in southern Thailand and other members of the suspected trafficking network. The seizure is part of a wider effort by police to dismantle major drug networks by tracing both the movement of narcotics and assets linked to trafficking operations.
