Residents of Rawiporn Greenview in Huay Yai are experiencing tremendous stress as they see their homes and property destroyed by the floods.

Residents of the Rawiporn Greenview Housing Estate in Huay Yai subdistrict gathered at the municipality offices Sept. 12, to express their grief and vent their anger at having to see their beloved homes totally inundated after the heavy rain last Sunday night.

The residents said that the rains are a natural phenomenon and they have lived with monsoons all their lives and are used to it. But recently the situation has become unbearable because a brand name hotel and other businesses have selfishly constructed their luxury buildings in Najomtien area which blocked the natural path of rain water flowing into the sea.

Katawut Laopa, one of the residents of the estate, said that the people have suffered for quite a long time and are seeking help from the authorities to negotiate with the wealthy developers to unblock the drainage system so that the rain water could flow unhindered on its natural path to the sea or into the municipality drainage system.

Electrical appliances and furniture have all been destroyed by the flood water in people’s homes.

Katawut Laopa, along with hundreds of residents of Rawiporn housing estate, gathered at the Huay Yai municipality to ask the authorities to negotiate with the affluent business people to let the water drain out of their homes.
