1 Rayong cop killed, 2 hurt in patrol car crash

Rescue workers free the police officers from the police vehicle that smashed into a massive light pole during heavy rain killing one constable.

One police officer was killed and two others hurt when their speeding patrol car slammed into a massive light pole on Sukhumvit highway near Mabtaput Industrial Estate in Rayong.

Maptaput crime-suppression sub-inspector Pol. Lt. Somruk Tiengtongdee, 54, died at the scene of the Sept. 21 crash during heavy rain.



Driver Pol. Sgt. Mongkolchai Kaewwichien, 27, and Pol. Sr. Sgt. Maj. Narin Sinchai, 50, sitting in the back seat, both suffered severe chest injuries and were taken to Chalermprakiat Mabtaput Hospital.

A witness said the cop car was speeding with its siren on through the rain and lost control before hitting the light pole.
