Does anyone know why wine is so expensive in Thailand? I recently had the pleasure of a short trip to Luang Prabang in Laos and in one of the top restaurants it was possible to get a decent bottle of French or Australian wine for about 45 dollars. The equivalent wine in an equivalent restaurant in Pattaya could cost you 120 dollars. Why?
If you were an alcoholic and needed a half bottle of gin or whiskey before breakfast, you are in paradise, as you can buy a bottle of either for about 350 baht. If Thailand wants to attract more than the beer swilling tourist it should consider the plight of those of us that like a glass of wine with our dinner.
