More on pensions

Whilst commiserating with Jingjo over his pension problem (PM 20/09), since he makes a comparison with the British pension I feel bound to point out that there is a fundamental difference between the Australian and British systems.

In England we have to make regular, compulsory contributions to our pension; therefore one would expect to get the same pension irrespective of location.  In Australia the pension is a welfare privilege which is restricted to those who qualify.

Yours etc,

Michael Nightingale
