BANGKOK, Thailand – Thailand’s tourism authorities are urging travellers to closely monitor heavy rain and flooding, check routes before travelling and allow extra time when heading to airports.
Tourism and Sports Minister Surasak Phancharoenworakul has instructed the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) to closely monitor conditions and provide assistance to tourists affected by severe weather.
TAT is coordinating with Airports of Thailand (AOT) and Bangkok authorities to monitor road conditions and provide timely travel information, particularly for tourists travelling by air.
Travellers are advised to check weather, flood conditions and road routes before setting out and prepare alternative routes where necessary. Those flying should allow more time than usual to reach airports and check flight status with their airlines and the relevant airport in advance.
TAT also advises tourists to follow warnings and travel information from government agencies, including the Thai Meteorological Department, ThaiWater, GISTDA, Google Flood Hub and the “Thang Rath” government application.
Tourists should avoid flooded and high-risk areas and follow instructions from local officials.
TAT’s 1672 Travel Buddy hotline is available for travel information and assistance. Other emergency contacts include AOT 1722, Tourist Police 1155, Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Department 1784, Department of Highways 1586, Department of Rural Roads 1146, Highway Police 1193 and emergency medical services 1669. TAT said it will continue coordinating with relevant agencies to provide tourists with updated information and assistance while the heavy rain and flooding situation continues.
