PATTAYA, Thailand – Five golfers made the trip to Pattana on Tuesday, July 7, to play the A and B nines under partly cloudy skies and a welcome cooling breeze. Although the course was in good condition, its length and challenging layout made scoring difficult.
With Stableford points at a premium, Allan Cassin and Willem Lasonder both finished on 30 points after steady rounds. Allan claimed victory on countback, with Willem taking second place. No nearest-the-pin contests or the wooden spoon were awarded.
Ten golfers enjoyed ideal playing conditions at Pattaya Country Club on Thursday, July 9, where overcast skies and a pleasant breeze accompanied a course in excellent condition.
The favourable conditions produced several high scores, but birthday boy Tony Oakes stole the show with a superbly consistent round of 41 Stableford points to claim top honours.
John Dean recovered from a modest front nine with an outstanding back nine worth 25 points to finish second on 39 points. Willem Lasonder, meanwhile, reclaimed the society’s wooden spoon after several weeks without it.
Nearest-the-pin honours went to Tony Oakes, Nigel Irving, Ian Lingard and John Dean. The day concluded with members celebrating Tony Oakes’ birthday over a delicious cake.
