Deputy Government Spokesperson Traisuree Taisaranakul disclosed that as the 2021 Chinese New Year is coming up, Prime Minister and Defense Minister Gen. Prayut Chan-o-cha has ordered concerned agencies, especially Ministry of Commerce’s Department of Internal Trade, to control prices of goods during the season, and to prevent any profiteering act. Shops and stores must clearly display prices. Failure to do so will be subject to legal penalty.

As online shopping is becoming more popular, the Prime Minister also enjoined concerned agencies to monitor all platforms of online sales to prevent the consumers from being taken advantage, and scammed. If any related offence is found, one may immediately notify Office of the Consumer Protection Board via Hotline 1166.

The Government has earlier approved Friday, February 12, 2021 (Chinese New Year) as an extra holiday for this year to encourage the people to spend more, thereby, stimulating national economy and mitigating the COVID-19 impact, especially via various economic stimulus plans, such as the Half-Half scheme, We Win scheme, etc.  (Thaigov.go.th)
