PM Abhisit: farmer voices will be heard through National Farmers Council

BANGKOK, 22 April 2011 -Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva reiterated the importance of the law governing the National Farmers Council as a mechanism for channeling their voices and opinions. 

Presiding over the seminar aimed at creating a mutual understating of the laws, the Prime Minister emphasized the long term solutions for farmers in the event of natural disasters and the idea of having an individual to represent them in the National Farmers Council.

He said the responsibilities of the representative included voicing concerns and expressing opinions of farmers across Thailand. The move said to bring prosperity to the agro-industry and improve the quality of life for them.

Mr. Abhisit said even if a local representative represented a small percentage of the farmer population unlike those from the provincial or district levels, he or she would still be heard.
