Holiday Inn and the Night of the Long Names

The Holiday Inn has been promoting some wine appreciation events for some time, and practice definitely makes perfect. A full house of wine enthusiasts enjoying the evening attests to that.

This time it was Italian wines, hence the “long names”, starting the evening with a Mionetto Prosecco DOC Treviso Brut, which was a great palate freshener and could be purchased that night for under B. 500. The Proseccos are always very pleasant and everyone enjoyed the Mionetto.

Daniel Boswell and his crew is now presenting the wines in the order of white through to red and not alternating as was done in the past. The concept of 20 minutes for each flight works well and having the staff serve the wine lovers is much better than the previous queuing routine.

The remaining five wines were (long names, you have been warned!) Mongris Pinot Grigio Collio Marco Felluga, Mezzacorona Pinot Grigio Trentino DOC, Mezzacorona Chardonnay Trentino DOC, Mezzacorona Pinot Nero Trentino DOC and finally Mezzocorona Cabernet Sauvignon Trentino.

The (more than) nibbles to go with the wine experience were excellent, and there was a particular Italian pepper cheese which was an ideal partner to the Chardonnay, which was a little lacking in flavor. And, Oh Yes, proper cheese knives too. Well done Daniel.
