BANGKOK, Thailand – Deputy Government Spokesperson Lalida Persvivatana, representing the Joint Information Communication Center at Government House, announced that the Cabinet has approved Monday, September 28, and Tuesday, September 29, 2026, as special public holidays in response to heavy rainfall and widespread flooding.
The special holidays will apply only to Bangkok, Nonthaburi, Pathum Thani and Samut Prakan.
The government stressed that essential public services and critical state functions must continue without disruption. Government agencies are required to maintain necessary operations through online channels.
For agencies handling essential duties, urgent matters or pre-scheduled appointments that could cause significant harm to the public if canceled, department heads may use their discretion to keep services running smoothly and minimize disruption to citizens.
State enterprises, financial institutions and private-sector businesses are advised to determine their own working arrangements based on operational needs. Organizations including the Ministry of Labour, the Bank of Thailand, the Stock Exchange of Thailand, insurance companies and hospitals must follow their respective laws and regulatory requirements. The Stock Exchange of Thailand has confirmed that it will remain open and operate as usual.
On financial and procurement matters, government agencies have been instructed to complete essential purchases and financial transactions before the September 30 fiscal year-end deadline.
The Comptroller General’s Department has confirmed that agencies can securely access key government systems, including the e-Government Procurement system, or e-GP, and the Government Fiscal Management Information System, or GFMIS, remotely. Supervisory authorities have also been urged to monitor and complete these processes on schedule to prevent delays in budget disbursement or the loss of allocated funds. (NNT)
