BANGKOK, Thailand – Prime Minister and Interior Minister Anutin Charnvirakul said Thailand is prepared to respond with a “full team” if Cambodia raises the Thailand-Cambodia border issue during the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York. Speaking before departing for Tokyo on September 20, Anutin said the Ministry of Foreign Affairs is confident in the steps Thailand has taken and is prepared to address any developments at the UN. Thailand’s delegation is scheduled to attend UNGA81 during the high-level week from September 21–24, with Anutin due to deliver Thailand’s national statement during the General Debate on September 24.
The comments come as Thailand and Cambodia are also engaged in a UN-backed conciliation process over a separate maritime boundary dispute, which began in Singapore on September 15. Anutin is travelling from Thailand to Japan before continuing to New York for the UN assembly. His September 20–27 overseas mission also includes the United Kingdom and focuses on diplomatic relations, trade, investment and digital cooperation. On the separate controversy involving alleged Senate election collusion, Anutin said the matter is proceeding according to the law and within the constitutional framework. He also reiterated that the Bhumjaithai Party is not involved.
