NAN, Thailand – Floodwaters across Nan province have dropped below riverbanks at every monitoring station as local authorities shift to full-scale recovery. Emergency teams on August 23 began pumping remaining floodwaters out of low-lying areas while clearing mud and debris from homes and public roads.
Nan Governor Chainarong Wongyai reported that cleanup crews have already cleared 83 percent of affected homes in Pua district. Meanwhile, financial relief payments for residents will start on August 30. The initial payout of 6,700 baht covers essential clothing, bedding, and kitchenware for hit families.
Beyond that, the Nan Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Office stated that flood victims can submit aid claims locally. Applications are accepted through village heads, subdistrict headmen, local administrative organizations, or municipal offices without paper photocopies. Applicants only need identity verification using a 13-digit national identification number. A second relief payment will later cover damaged housing repairs, farmland crops, and agricultural tools.
On public utilities, the Provincial Waterworks Authority has restored piped water service to 100 percent of its distribution network. The agency has supplied over 435,000 liters of clean water to disaster areas while rushing pipe repairs in parts of Pua district. As recovery progresses, Nan province will reduce its situation briefings to a daily update at 8:00 PM starting August 24. (NNT)
