PATTAYA, Thailand – Tourist Police arrested a 36-year-old Ugandan woman in Pattaya on August 14 after she allegedly memorized the code to an American tourist’s hotel safe before returning later to steal cash and flee toward Walking Street. Police said the American tourist had taken the woman to a hotel room in South Pattaya, where he opened the room safe. The woman allegedly watched and memorized the safe code before taking advantage of a moment when the tourist was distracted to open the safe and remove cash and other valuables.
She then allegedly fled toward Walking Street. The tourist contacted Tourist Police, who tracked her down outside a fast-food restaurant in the area. Police arranged for a female hotel employee to conduct a search, during which officers said several items of cash were found concealed in the woman’s wig, bra and the front of her underwear. The recovered money included 12 US$100 notes and six US$2 notes, with a combined value of about 40,000 baht. The suspect, identified as Florence Namusisi, 36, a Ugandan national, was arrested and charged with theft. Police informed her of her legal rights before taking her into custody for further legal proceedings.
