BANGKOK, Thailand – The Office of the Consumer Protection Board (OCPB) is investigating an aesthetic clinic after a customer complained that an abdominal liposuction procedure advertised online for 33,999 baht ultimately cost 70,000 baht and did not produce the expected results. The procedure was promoted as creating defined vertical abdominal lines known as “11-line abs.”
Minister Attached to the Prime Minister’s Office Supamas Isarabhakdi, who oversees the OCPB, ordered an investigation into the clinic’s pricing, advertising, and service conditions. The agency will coordinate with the Department of Health Service Support and the Medical Council of Thailand in reviewing the case.
Supamas said aesthetic clinics must clearly disclose the full price consumers are expected to pay and raised concerns over additional fees that substantially increase advertised prices. The OCPB will also examine contracts and consent forms for terms that could unfairly limit consumers’ ability to seek redress. Aesthetic service providers are required to disclose procedures, total costs, payment conditions, cancellation rights, and physician information before treatment. Consumers are advised to obtain the total price in writing and retain advertisements, receipts, and contracts, while complaints can be filed through the OCPB Hotline 1166 and other official channels.
