BANGKOK, Thailand – Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Anutin Charnvirakul will make an official visit to the Republic of Indonesia from August 3–4 for talks with Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto. The trip marks the first official visit by a Thai prime minister to Indonesia in 15 years. Government Spokesperson Rachada Dhnadirek stated that the visit aims to translate the Thailand–Indonesia Strategic Partnership into tangible cooperation in trade, investment, tourism, security, food and energy security, education, and business links.
With a population of 280 million and ASEAN’s largest economy, Indonesia represents a major market and investment destination for Thai businesses. Stronger ties are expected to expand market access for Thai goods and services, strengthen supply chains, encourage bilateral investment, and create new opportunities for large companies and SMEs. The government also seeks benefits for the public through agricultural and food exports, tourism, employment, workforce development, and technology exchange. As founding members of ASEAN, Thailand and Indonesia will discuss regional connectivity, sustainable development, transnational crime, and geopolitical challenges. The talks will also support efforts to maintain ASEAN unity, stability, and economic resilience.
On August 3, Prime Minister Anutin will attend an official welcoming ceremony, hold restricted and plenary talks with President Prabowo, and participate in a joint press conference at the Indonesian Presidential Palace. On August 4, he will open a Thailand–Indonesia Business Forum organized by the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, or KADIN, with the Thai Chamber of Commerce in Indonesia. He will then visit the ASEAN Secretariat, meet the ASEAN Secretary-General, and deliver Thailand’s vision for ASEAN’s future ahead of the country’s ASEAN chairmanship in 2028. (NNT)
