BANGKOK, Thailand – Travelling along Bangkok’s Chao Phraya River is becoming more affordable after Thai Smile Boat joined the government’s “Thai Chuay Thai Plus 60/40” program, allowing eligible passengers to pay just 12 baht per trip on its electric ferry services. The fare reduction is available from August 1 to September 30, 2026, as part of the government’s ongoing efforts to ease the cost of living while encouraging greater use of environmentally friendly public transportation.
Operated by Thai Smile Boat Co., Ltd., the electric ferry service has become a popular transport option for commuters and tourists travelling along the Chao Phraya River. Under the subsidy programme, passengers will pay only 12 baht per journey, down from the regular fare of 30 baht, with the government covering the remaining cost under the 60/40 scheme. Passengers can redeem the discount by using the Paotang application and notifying staff at the pier or fare collector before boarding.
The subsidy is valid across all three Thai Smile Boat electric ferry routes:
- Green Line (City Line): Siam Charoen Nakhon – Phra Pinklao
- Purple Line (Urban Line): Sathorn – Phra Nang Klao
- Blue Line (Metro Line): Nonthaburi Pier – Wat Worachanyawas
The initiative supports the government’s wider campaign to reduce household expenses while promoting cleaner forms of public transport that help lower emissions and improve air quality in the capital. Thai Smile Boat said the program is expected to encourage more people to switch from road transport to electric ferries, easing traffic congestion and offering commuters an affordable alternative for daily travel.
Passengers who have already exhausted their subsidy entitlement can continue using the HOP Card, which offers unlimited travel throughout the day under the Daily Max Fare program for just 40 baht. The company said it remains committed to expanding the use of clean-energy transport while making river travel more accessible and economical for both residents and visitors.
