CHIANG RAI, Thailand – The flood situation in Chiang Rai remains critical after a locally built water barrier collapsed on Thursday afternoon, allowing floodwaters to rush into homes in Ban Hua Lo, Bua Sali subdistrict, Mae Lao district. The incident was reported at 2:59 p.m. on July 30, after residents’ efforts to block rising water failed, causing water to rapidly flow into the community. Local residents and relevant authorities are closely monitoring the situation and preparing assistance for those affected as emergency response efforts continue.
Continuous heavy rainfall across Chiang Rai has caused water levels in rivers and drainage areas to rise, with several locations facing overflowing waterways, flash floods, and landslide risks. Residents living in low-lying areas or near waterways have been urged to closely follow official updates, move belongings to higher ground, and follow instructions from authorities to protect lives and property.
