PATTAYA, Thailand – Pattaya City has welcomed the steady flow of visitors during the July 28–30 long holiday, but heavy traffic entering the city has once again highlighted growing concerns over congestion and the need for better traffic management. City officials shared images showing crowded roads leading into Pattaya, describing the situation as a sign that tourists and residents continue to choose the city as a holiday destination. While strong visitor numbers are positive for the local economy, many motorists faced long delays and frustration while trying to enter and move around the city.
The recurring congestion raises questions over whether Pattaya’s transport infrastructure is keeping pace with its popularity. Roads designed decades ago are now struggling to handle increasing numbers of private vehicles, tour buses, taxis and rental vehicles. Traffic problems become especially severe during long weekends, festivals and peak tourist periods, when key routes such as Sukhumvit Road, Beach Road and Second Road often experience bottlenecks. Residents and business operators have repeatedly called for more effective solutions, including stricter parking enforcement, improved traffic flow systems, better public transport options and faster action on road management.
While welcoming visitors remains essential for Pattaya’s tourism economy, continued traffic problems risk affecting the visitor experience and daily life for residents. The city’s popularity is clear, but officials face the challenge of ensuring that success does not come at the cost of gridlocked streets and growing frustration among those who live, work and travel in Pattaya.
