PATTAYA, Thailand – Pattaya residents and visitors are being urged to prepare for heavy rainfall from July 27-30 as the Meteorological Department issued its seventh warning for widespread heavy to very heavy rain across several parts of Thailand, including the Eastern region. The weather agency said a monsoon trough is affecting northern and upper northeastern Thailand, while the strengthening southwest monsoon is covering the Andaman Sea, Thailand and the Gulf of Thailand. The conditions are expected to bring heavy rainfall, with some areas facing very heavy downpours.
Authorities warned that accumulated rainfall could trigger flash floods and runoff, especially in low-lying areas, near waterways and hillside locations. For Pattaya and Chonburi, officials are closely monitoring weather conditions as the Eastern region is among the areas expected to experience heavy rain during the warning period. Sudden downpours could affect roads, drainage systems and travel conditions, particularly in areas prone to flooding. The Meteorological Department advised residents to plan daily activities and travel carefully, while motorists are urged to remain cautious during periods of intense rain due to reduced visibility and possible water accumulation on roads.
Marine conditions in the Gulf of Thailand are also expected to become rougher. Waves in the upper Gulf may reach around 2 meters, with higher waves possible during thunderstorms. Boat operators and tourists planning sea activities are advised to check weather conditions and avoid travelling during storms. The department also warned travellers heading toward southern China to monitor weather updates as Tropical Storm “Noul” has moved over Guangdong province.
