BANGKOK, Thailand – Thailand’s Ministry of Transport worked to address a technical malfunction on the Airport Rail Link that disrupted services on Wednesday. Siripong Angkasakulkiat, the deputy transport minister, visited the Khlong Tan maintenance depot following the disruption. Officials worked to resolve the issue and investigate its cause. Authorities deployed additional trains to ease travel disruptions for commuters. The ministry also prepared contingency plans, including extra train services and coordination with other public transport agencies to ensure sufficient capacity and reduce passenger congestion if needed.
The service disruption began after a train carriage derailed at a track switch inside the maintenance depot at 12:47 a.m. while returning after hours. The incident blocked the depot entrance, preventing other operational trains from leaving to serve the Phaya Thai–Suvarnabhumi line. To mitigate the impact, the State Railway of Thailand deployed seven special diesel trains, while free shuttle buses transported passengers between Suvarnabhumi Airport and Makkasan station. (TNA)
