CHENGDU, China – Thailand and Sichuan province have agreed to expand cooperation in trade, investment, technology, tourism, and local partnerships, further strengthening Thailand’s economic ties with western China. Government Spokesperson Rachada Dhnadirek stated that Secretary of the Communist Party of China Sichuan Provincial Committee Wang Xiaohui paid a courtesy call on Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul at the Chengdu Century City International Convention Center on July 18.
Prime Minister Anutin described Sichuan, with a population of over 80 million, as a major market for Thai products and a source of quality investment. He noted that the newly opened BOI Chengdu Office will help businesses access information, obtain investment support, and identify opportunities in Thailand. The office will focus on attracting investment in electric vehicles, electronics, digital and advanced technology, clean energy, and emerging industries. These investments are expected to create jobs, develop workforce skills, support technology transfer, and strengthen Thailand’s production base.
More than 150 Thai business executives participated in economic activities in Chengdu. The Prime Minister assured Chinese companies of the Thai government’s full support for their business expansion. He also asked local authorities to ensure the welfare of Thai entrepreneurs, students, and tourists in Sichuan, and formally invited provincial leaders to visit Thailand to further strengthen regional partnerships. In 2025, trade between Thailand and Sichuan reached approximately 41 billion yuan, an increase of 112%. Sichuan maintains sister-city relations with five Thai provinces, while the number of Thai visitors to the province continues to rise. Its strong interest in Thai cuisine creates opportunities for Thai agricultural products, ingredients, seasonings, and related services. (NNT)
