
CHANTHABURI, Thailand – A late-night fire tore through a historic riverside community in Chanthaburi, destroying five homes and injuring one woman before firefighters brought the blaze under control after more than an hour. The fire broke out at around 10 p.m. on July 17 in the Ban Lum Riverside Community in Wat Mai subdistrict, a historic neighborhood and one of the province’s best-known tourist attractions.
According to initial reports, the blaze started in a wooden house before spreading rapidly to neighboring homes. With many of the closely packed buildings constructed from wood, firefighters faced difficult conditions as flames quickly engulfed parts of the community. Firefighters from Chanthaburi Municipality, supported by crews from neighboring local authorities, police officers, the Provincial Electricity Authority, disaster prevention officials, volunteer civil defense personnel, and rescue teams, responded to the emergency.
Crews battled the fire for more than one hour, finally bringing it under control at around 11 p.m. Preliminary inspections found that five homes were destroyed or severely damaged, while one woman sustained injuries. Rescue personnel provided first aid before transporting her to hospital. No fatalities were reported. Authorities are investigating the cause of the fire and assessing the extent of the damage.
