The Tourism Authority of Thailand says alcohol can now be sold from 11:00–24:00 nationwide under updated rules, with the 14:00–17:00 window permanently included in permitted hours.

PATTAYA, Thailand – The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) advises visitors that Thailand’s alcohol sales rules have been updated following the latest Royal Gazette announcement by the Alcoholic Beverage Control Committee. Effective 29 May 2026, alcoholic beverages may generally be sold from 11.00 to 24.00 Hrs. The update makes the 14.00–17.00 Hrs. sales period part of the regular permitted timeframe. This period had previously been restricted before a six-month trial arrangement was introduced in late 2025.

For visitors, this means alcoholic beverages may generally be purchased from licensed retailers, restaurants, and authorized venues between 11.00 and 24.00 Hrs. Sales outside these hours remain restricted, except where separate legal conditions apply. Some locations may follow different operating conditions. These include international airport areas serving international passengers, hotels, licensed entertainment venues, approved event spaces, and designated areas where alcohol service is allowed under relevant laws. Travellers should follow staff guidance, as service hours may vary by venue type, license, and location.

Existing alcohol-control rules remain in place. The legal drinking age in Thailand is 20, and alcohol sales or consumption remain restricted in certain public places, including temples, government offices, petrol stations, public parks, and public transport areas, unless specifically allowed by law.

Visitors are advised to buy and consume alcohol only through licensed venues, carry identification where required, avoid drinking in prohibited public areas, and arrange safe transport after consuming alcohol. Alcohol sales may also be restricted during elections, major religious days, or other official periods announced by the relevant authorities. Thailand continues to welcome visitors to enjoy its dining, leisure, and nightlife experiences responsibly, while respecting local laws, public safety, and community well-being. (TAT)
