Stronger airport screening in place as Thailand moves to prevent Ebola risks through coordinated aviation and health measures.

PATTAYA, Thailand – The Civil Aviation Authority of Thailand (CAAT) has coordinated with all aviation stakeholders to strengthen preventive measures against the potential spread of Ebola virus disease, following outbreaks reported in parts of the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) and Uganda. Authorities confirmed that the Ministry of Public Health has raised surveillance and prevention measures, requiring passengers and crew arriving from affected countries to enter Thailand exclusively through Suvarnabhumi Airport, where they will undergo health screening and quarantine procedures in line with public health protocols.

CAAT, working in close cooperation with airlines, airport operators, and health agencies, has implemented coordinated preparedness measures to ensure compliance with national health standards and international aviation safety guidelines. The agency emphasized that the response aims to maintain both public safety and continuity of air transport operations. On May 27, CAAT issued a Notice to Airmen (NOTAM) to formally notify airlines and aviation service providers of the enforcement measures. The authority also held briefings and coordination meetings with relevant stakeholders to clarify operational procedures ahead of the measures taking effect at 18:00 on the same day.

Airlines have additionally been requested to provide advance passenger and flight information to support efficient screening processes and minimize disruption to travelers while maintaining strict disease control standards. CAAT urged the public to closely monitor the Ebola situation and avoid non-essential travel to affected regions. Travelers with necessary trips are advised to strictly follow health regulations and check updated requirements with airlines prior to departure, as measures may be adjusted depending on evolving conditions.
