BANGKOK, Thailand – Bangkok traffic police are continuing a strict crackdown on motorists illegally blocking railway crossings, just one week after a dramatic train collision with a Route 206 bus near Asok station. On May 23, traffic officers from Makkasan Police Station joined State Railway officials beneath the Airport Rail Link station to manage congestion and monitor dangerous driving behavior at the railway intersection.
Despite the recent accident, authorities still found multiple vehicles stopping directly on the tracks and blocking yellow box markings. Police immediately issued fines to offending drivers, while motorcyclists caught illegally turning right at restricted points were also ticketed. As trains approached the crossing, officers rushed to clear vehicles from the rails and directed motorists to stop behind safety lines before barriers were lowered on both sides.
Railway staff waved red warning flags to alert road users as trains entered Asok station. The crossing has remained under intense public scrutiny since the May 16 crash between a train and a Route 206 bus. Many commuters and pedestrians were seen stopping to film trains passing through the now-infamous accident site. Authorities say enforcement operations will continue in an effort to prevent another serious collision. (TNA)
