BANGKOK, Thailand – Thailand officially enters the rainy season today (May 15), according to the Thai Meteorological Department (TMD), with weather conditions shifting into a transitional phase.
During this period, some areas may still experience hot weather, along with thunderstorms and gusty winds. Authorities said conditions may remain unstable before rainfall patterns become more consistent.
This year, total rainfall is expected to be lower than last year and about 10 percent below average. Rainfall in the early and late seasons is projected to be below normal, while the middle season is expected to see more consistent rainfall, with heavier precipitation in the eastern region and along the west coast of southern Thailand.
According to the TMD, rainfall may decrease between late June and July, with possible dry spells in some areas, while heavier rain is expected from August to September, increasing the risk of flash floods and runoff. The public is advised to monitor weather updates and remain cautious, especially in low-lying areas and near natural waterways. (NNT)
