
SURIN, Thailand – Thailand’s Second Army Region is coordinating with Cambodian authorities to assist a Thai national who was arrested after crossing the border to forage for forest products.
The man, a resident of Surin province, had been missing for 16 days before his whereabouts were confirmed.
The Second Army Region received a report from the Suranaree Task Force regarding the arrest of a Thai man by Cambodian soldiers. The individual reportedly crossed the border illegally near the Ta Leng Pass in Kap Choeng district. He was missing for over 15 days, causing significant concern for his family.
On May 4, the Suranaree Task Force coordinated with local police and contacted Cambodian officials through the Cambodia-Thailand Coordination Office at O’Smach. Cambodian authorities confirmed that the man, identified as Mr. Yote, was detained for illegal entry and is currently undergoing legal proceedings at the Oddar Meanchey Provincial Court. The Commander of the Second Army Region has instructed the Suranaree Task Force to use border coordination mechanisms to provide urgent assistance.
Meanwhile, Maratee Nalita Andamo, Deputy Spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, stated that the ministry is providing aid. This assistance includes facilitating legal counsel and contacting relatives in Thailand. (TNA)
