After twelve years of dedicated service, members of the German-speaking “Rotary E-Club Dolphin Pattaya International” are not simply closing a chapter—they are carrying forward a legacy of compassion, cooperation, and international understanding into a new era of Rotary engagement.

Founded in 2014 by Dr. Otmar Deter, a German electrical engineer known for his intellectual rigor and global outlook, the club quickly grew into a dynamic force for humanitarian work in Thailand and beyond. Guided by his principle—“Make a better world, bring positive thoughts into the world”—the club focused on three enduring goals: fostering international understanding, enabling self-help, and supporting the younger generation.

That spirit remains very much alive today. From its earliest days, the club demonstrated its commitment to meaningful impact. Its first initiative, in partnership with the Rotary Club Prapathomchedi, supported the creation of a prosthetic leg workshop in Nakhon Pathom. This effort evolved into a long-standing collaboration with the Prostheses Foundation in Chiang Mai, earning recognition on five occasions from Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn—a testament to the project’s lasting humanitarian value.

Education also stood at the heart of the club’s mission. Through close cooperation with the Human Help Network Foundation Thailand, members supported vulnerable children across Pattaya, including those in street situations and underserved communities. The establishment of the ASEAN Education Center in 2016 further expanded opportunities, enabling migrant children from neighboring countries to access structured learning and, more recently, transition into the Thai education system.

Over the years, the club contributed approximately 24 million baht to projects spanning healthcare, education, and environmental sustainability, including mangrove reforestation initiatives.

Equally significant was the club’s involvement in the Rotary Peace Fellow Program, where Dr. Otmar and Dr. Margret Deter welcomed international scholars to Thailand, offering mentorship and cultural exchange that extended far beyond the classroom.

Today, while the original club’s formal activities conclude, its members are not stepping away from service. Instead, many are joining forces with the newer Rotary Club Global Pattaya, ensuring that their experience, values, and dedication continue to benefit the community. Under the continued involvement of Dr. Margret Deter and President Ilona Landgraf-Strobel, a new generation of Rotarians is building upon strong foundations.

In a message to members, Dr. Margret Deter expressed gratitude for years of shared commitment and friendship, emphasizing that the true achievement lies not only in projects completed, but in lives touched and connections forged.

Among the club’s most enduring contributions is the establishment of a prosthetics training program, which continues to equip around 40 specialists each year—restoring mobility and dignity to countless individuals.

As Rotary members in Pattaya move forward together, the story of Rotary E-Club Dolphin Pattaya International does not end—it evolves. The same ideals of service above self, international friendship, and practical action remain firmly in place, guiding a renewed commitment to making a difference in the years ahead.
