PATTAYA, Thailand – Residents and visitors in Pattaya are being urged to stay alert as Thailand’s Meteorological Department issued its sixth warning for summer storms, forecasting thunderstorms, strong winds, and possible hail across much of the country, including the eastern region.
The warning covers April 30 to May 1, with Pattaya and surrounding areas expected to see unstable weather conditions. While daytime temperatures remain high, storm activity is likely to develop in the afternoon and evening, bringing sudden downpours and gusty winds.
The department said the conditions are being driven by a high-pressure system from China spreading over the northeast and the South China Sea, clashing with Thailand’s intense heat. This combination is creating ideal conditions for summer storms, including lightning and isolated hail in some areas.
In eastern provinces such as Chonburi, Rayong, Chanthaburi, and Trat, thunderstorms are forecast to affect around 60% of the area, with temperatures ranging between 25–37°C. Coastal waters are expected to see waves of about one meter, rising higher during storms.
Authorities are advising people in Pattaya to avoid open areas, large trees, and unstable structures during storms. Beachgoers and boat operators are also urged to monitor conditions closely, as sudden weather changes could pose safety risks.
Despite the incoming storms, the heat remains intense, with daytime temperatures in Pattaya still climbing into the mid-30s. The combination of heat and storms may also help reduce dust levels, which have recently been moderate in many parts of the country.
Officials are also warning farmers in surrounding areas to secure crops and livestock against potential storm damage, as the volatile weather pattern continues.
The Meteorological Department said the public should stay updated with official forecasts as conditions may change rapidly during this period.
