Festivities come alive in Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya as decorated elephants from Ayutthaya Elephant Palace & Royal Kraal take center stage in vibrant parades, water battles, and cultural events across the UNESCO-listed old city during Songkran.

AYUTTHAYA, Thailand – Get ready for the ultimate splash! In Thailand’s ancient capital of Ayutthaya, the Songkran festivities have reached a majestic level.

Ten magnificent elephants from the Ayutthaya Elephant Palace & Royal Kraal, beautifully painted in vibrant floral patterns, are leading the charge to welcome the Thai New Year.

It’s not just about the water; it’s about the spirit of the Old City. The streets are alive with traditional long-drum processions and the iconic “Frog-nosed” Tuk-Tuks—a signature of Ayutthaya—touring the city to spread the holiday joy.

From April 13th to the 15th, Ayutthaya is opening up the “City Island” area for full-scale celebrations. Residents and tourists are invited to bring their water barrels on trucks for a city-wide splash. And if you’re looking for a modern twist, don’t miss the massive foam parties keeping everyone cool under the tropical sun.

The highlight of the event is the water play with elephants at the Elephant Palace near the City Pillar Shrine. Witness a spectacular 2-kilometer parade on April 13th, and as the sun sets, the party continues with a night-time foam celebration to keep the energy high.

Beyond the splashing, it’s a time for blessings. Local authorities invite everyone to visit the ancient temples of this UNESCO World Heritage site to pay respects and start the year with good fortune. Come for the elephants, stay for the culture, and leave with a heart full of happiness. -819 (TNA)
