Thailand promotes part-time jobs for students to build skills and ease family costs

BANGKOK, Thailand – Deputy Government Spokesperson Airin Phanrit announced on March 30, 2026, that the government is promoting part-time employment for students during school breaks. This initiative aims to help students gain professional experience, earn additional income to support their families, and prepare for future careers.

The Department of Employment, Ministry of Labour, is working with leading private companies to support student hiring. In the 2026 fiscal year, more than 2,600 students were placed in jobs from more than 3,000 applicants. More than 2,000 additional vacancies are available nationwide in sectors such as customer service, retail sales, cashier, and food service. Major participating companies include Minor International, Central Restaurants Group (CRG), Charoen Pokphand (CP) Group, CP All, and Big C Supercenter.

The government has established specific regulations to ensure the safety and well-being of young workers. Students may work up to 4 hours per day on school days and up to 6 hours on holidays during the academic term. During school breaks, they may work up to 7 hours per day, with a maximum of 36 hours per week. The minimum wage is 40 baht per hour. All positions must be safe, non-hazardous, and outside restricted areas.
