PATTAYA, Thailand – A 71-year-old German tourist narrowly survived after losing consciousness while swimming at Bang Saray Beach near Pattaya on March 23, triggering a swift rescue effort by bystanders and emergency responders.
Rescue teams were alerted around noon and rushed to Bang Saray Beach, south of Pattaya, together with emergency medical personnel from Wat Yan Hospital.
The tourist was found unconscious after being pulled from the water by nearby visitors. Good Samaritans and other tourists quickly brought him ashore and began performing CPR. After several minutes of resuscitation efforts, the man’s pulse returned, and rescue workers transported him to a nearby hospital for urgent treatment.
Witnesses said the tourist had been swimming normally before appearing dizzy and collapsing in the water. He initially floated on his back before slowly turning face-down and submerging, alarming people nearby who rushed in to help. Officials reminded beachgoers to exercise caution when entering the sea, particularly elderly visitors or those with underlying health conditions. Authorities advise tourists not to swim alone to reduce the risk of unexpected emergencies.
