A newborn Linnaeus’s two-toed sloth, nicknamed “Little Flash,” clings to its mother at Khao Kheow Open Zoo after being born on March 1, drawing interest from visitors during the school holiday period.

BANGKOK, Thailand – Deputy Prime Minister and Natural Resources and Environment Minister Suchart Chomklin has commended Khao Kheow Open Zoo for its success in caring for and breeding rare wildlife, following the debut of a two-toed sloth baby that has attracted visitors during the school holiday period.

The Zoological Park Organization of Thailand reported that the newborn Linnaeus’s two-toed sloth, nicknamed “Little Flash,” was born on March 1 to a six-year-old mother named Elsa, whose name was bestowed by Her Royal Highness Princess Ubolratana Rajakanya Sirivadhana Barnavadi in 2024.

Officials said the infant is in good health and weighed 575 grams at its latest check-up. The baby continues to cling to its mother, consistent with the species’ natural behavior. The birth showcases the zoo’s ability to maintain the precise conditions required for sloth care and reproduction.

Visitors can now view the sloth family at the zoo, which is also planning a public naming activity to encourage engagement with wildlife. Further information is available at 0-3831-8444.  (NNT)
